“Burning Bush” and “A Letter for Evita” on Monte Carlo shortlist

Munich, 19. April 2013. Beta Film’s highly acclaimed mini-series Burning Bush and A Letter for Evita are competing for the Golden Nymphs at the Monte Carlo Television Festival. The two productions by HBO Europe and Spain’s TVE are among nine nominees in the section mini-series. The best programs and talents will be awarded at June 13 in Monte Carlo.

Directed by Academy Award nominee Agnieszka Holland, Burning Bush depicts the story of Jan Palach, the young student who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom in the Prague of January 1969, and the legal fight by his family to clear his name in the face of the oppressive communist propaganda machine. Based on a script by Stepan Hulik, Burning Bush was produced by HBO Europe (Antony Root, Tereza Polachova) and Nutprodukce Production (Tomas Hruby, Pavla Kubeckova).

A Letter for Evita is inspired by the real-life visit to Europe of Eva Perón 1947. Due to her massive intervention during her meeting with fascist dictator Franco and his wife Dona Carmen a communist woman is saved from capital punishment. Directed by Agusti Villaronga (multiple award winning “Black Bread”) A Letter for Evita was already honoured at TV-Festivals in Biarritz, New York and Hamburg. A Letter for Evita is a co-production of Television Espanola (TVE), Televiso de Catalunya (TVC) and Copia Cero Producciones.
