Munich, 20 June 2013. Accompanied by heated debates, the internationally highly acclaimed teamWorx/ZDF/Beta Film miniseries Generation War achieved record ratings on Polish public broadcaster TVP 1. The production, which previously proved its qualities as a blockbuster in Sweden, reached as prime time winner up to 3.7 million viewers and a 29 % share. Also in the younger target group (16-49 years) Generation War earned an extraordinary 22 % market share. The ratings rose significantly throughout the broadcast with 25 % more viewers for the last episode.
In Poland, the broadcast sparked debates regarding the role of Polish resistance groups with mixed reactions from Polish media and the online-community. While some of them discussed the depiction of anti-Semitism within the Polish society, others praised the movie for its blunt portrayal of German Wehrmacht cruelties and the deconstruction of the myth of the alleged innocence of the army.
Wartime drama Generation War is meeting with enormous worldwide interest. Beta Film has already sold the 6 x one-hour production to over 60 countries. Three weeks ago it gained record ratings at its international premiere in Sweden as one of the most widely seen foreign, non-English-language programs of all time.
Generation War, directed by Philipp Kadelbach (“Hindenburg”), depicting the fate of the young men and women who fought in Hitler’s devastating war, losing their youth and innocence if not their lives, is a grand and epic story of friendship, betrayal, faith, deception and responsibility. The production stars Volker Bruch (“The Reader”), Tom Schilling (“Oh Boy”), Katharina Schüttler (“Carlos”), Miriam Stein (“Goethe”) and Ludwig Trepte (“You can never be sure”). Generation War is a co-production of teamWorx and ZDF in co-operation with Beta Film and ZDF Enterprises, supported by Film und Medienstiftung NRW, FFF Bayern, Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Medienboard, Nordmedia and FFHSH.
