DWDL: "Homicide Hills" Achieves New Ratings Record

The fanbase is forever increasing: The ARD police series "Homicide Hills" (…) is gathering momentum.
If in future anyone should be looking for proof of how crucial the choice of a proper timeslot can be for a program's success, „Homicide Hills“ could serve as a prime example. When ARD started "Homicide Hills" on Monday evenings in 2008, there may certainly have been positive reviews for the well worth seeing and by ARD's standards highly unusual police series – but unfortunately, wider audiences didn't take any notice. At some times, less than 3 million viewers were watching it.
This summer, "Homicide Hills" was allowed to go out on Tuesday evenings, a well-established slot for series in the ARD, and what do you know: Even the repeats scored up to 5,8 million viewers. And after a temporary dent by the Soccer World Championship and the usual lower rate of TV-usage in summer, "Homicide Hills" is now picking up the race for record numbers again.
Now, one week before the season finale, the 6-million-barrier fell for the first time: 6,21 million were watching in all, which equals the excellent share of 20,5 percent of total viewers. What's even more gratifying: Slowly but surely, "Homicide Hills" has made a considerable following for itself among young audiences: 1,36 million of the viewers were between 14 and 49 years old, the market share in this age range rose to 11,9 percent – that, too, set a distinctive new record. So, "Homicide Hills" does not only serve as a prime example for the importance of the timeslot, but also as proof that ARD and ZDF could be capable of reaching younger viewers – with the right programs and the necessary staying power.
