Munich, 27 May 2010. Beta Cinema reports extensive sales throughout its current feature film line-up at this year’s Marché du Film at the International Film Festival in Cannes. Wolfgang Murnberger’s new film MY BEST ENEMY from the producer of the Academy Award winning THE COUNTERFEITERS has been sold before completion to UK’s Metrodome, Hollywood Classic Entertainment for Czech Republic/Slovakia and ERG Media (mainland China). All three partners had successfully released THE COUNTERFEITERS as well. Also acquired on script basis was the war drama HIDDEN from leading Polish director Agnieszka Holland by ERG for mainland China. Italy’s Rai Cinema will release Jo Baier’s THE END IS MY BEGINNING based on Tiziano Terzani’s best selling novel starring Bruno Ganz (DOWNFALL) and Elio Germano (Best Actors Prize in Cannes) in the lead roles. The feature film is currently in post-production.
The Taiwanese festival hit AU REVOIR TAIPEI (director: Arvin Chen, executive producer: Wim Wenders) built on its Berlinale success and was sold to South Korea (Sejong Communications), several North American distributors have manifested serious interest. Negotiations with US distributors are also going on for MY WORDS, MY LIES – MY LOVE with Daniel Bruehl (INGLORIOUS BASTERDS) and the documentary KEEP SURFING (Tribeca Film Festival).
German boxoffice hit VINCENT WANTS TO SEA, which attracted almost half a million viewers within a month, is heading soon to theatres in Israel (LEV Cinemas/Shani Film) and South Korea (Sejong Communications). Also Spanish distributors showed strong interest. Japan’s Aya Pro, Poland’s Vivarto and South Korea’s Mountain Pictures acquired the romantic drama BON APPETIT, which recently won three awards at the Malaga Film Festival (best film, best lead actor, best script). Hollywood Classic Entertainment (Czech Republic/Slovakia) inked a contract for the Bernd Eichinger production ELECTRO GHETTO, directed by Uli Edel (THE BAADER MEINHOF COMPLEX), featuring the German star rapper Bushido and the Czech pop singer Karel Gott, various Eastern European territories are in negotiations. The adaptation of the cult crime novel JERRY COTTON goes to Japan (New Select) and mainland China (New View Media), for the family adventure TIGER-TEAM a contract with an Italian distributor is in final negotiations, Beta Cinema noticed also strong interest from partners in France and Spain.
