Classical Summit 2006 - Three Superstars in Berlin

In the tradition of the original "The Three Tenors," world-class singers
Plácido Domingo, Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón join forces to
entertain a live audience of 20,000 spectators on location and millions
more around the world on TV. They will sing the most famous arias and duets
from the world of opera, accompanied by the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper
Berlin and its conductor Marco Armiliato. The event will take place at
Berlin's legendary Waldbühne on Friday, 7 July 2006 at 8 pm.
Less than 48 hours before the football world celebrates its new champion,
three top international opera stars - Plácido Domingo, Anna Netrebko and
Rolando Villazón - will join forces for a unique musical event in front of
a live audience. As one-of-a-kind interpreters of classical music and
high-caliber entertainers, they will thrill their public with the most
famous arias and duets from the world of opera. Looking back on an
extraordinary career that has been honored with 11 Grammys, Plácido Domingo
has become the very epitome of the operatic tenor, even among people who
have no particular interest in classical music. He is a star who beguiles
every audience with his virile charisma. Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón
eashed a worldwide media frenzy in summer 2005 with their rapturously
acclaimed "La Traviata" at the Salzburg Festival. The subsequent "Violetta"
album immediately shot up to the top of the charts. Russian soprano Anna
Netrebko's phenomenal career keeps her rushing from one highlight to the
next. Her debut as Natasha Rostova in Prokofiev's "War and Peace" at
New York's Metropolitan Opera had the critics hailing her as an "Audrey
Hepburn with a voice." On stage, Anna's heart belongs to the Mexican
breakout star Rolando Villazón, whom Plácido Domingo sees as his potential
uccessor and as the tenor with the brightest future. And how can the
heartrendingly expressive singer not touch each and every one of us when he
says of himself: "I love people. I love to sing. And I love surprises." The
venue of the concert is the legendary Waldbühne in Berlin, which was
modeled after ancient amphitheaters. For decades now, it has been hosting
all the giants of the rock and pop world such as Robbie Williams and the
Rolling Stones.
The event is a production of DEAG Deutsche Entertainment AG and Unitel in
cooperation with ZDF, and is shot in High Definition (HDTV).
